“O, What a noble mind is here o’erthrown!”

Posted on June 29, 2007. Filed under: Chelsea |

Every morning now for the past 3 weeks, I have awoken to the soothing noises of construction equipment, hammering, drills, and a wierd horn that goes off every once in awhile, which my incredible detective intuition tells me has something to do with the construction workers themselves and, here’s a bit of a leap, thier break times. The first few days it didn’t bother me, but now I think I will be forever scarred by the annoyingly chipper bell honker thing that those men have brought into the neighborhood.

Not to mention the icecream man comes through at least 3 times a week blaring his hypnotic tune to little children, but since my mind has developed past the instant urge to find my mommy so I can get some money to buy the ice-cream, it is now just another annoying sound that intrudes upon the peace of my inner-sanctum (My bedroom). They say that the sound of a baby crying is the most annoying sound in the world. Which under different circumstances I would concur (Don’t get me wrong I love the little things, but crying is a definately unpleasant sound) but since there are no babies present within my home, and I haven’t visited my brohters darling little angels, the sound of crying is but a thing of the past. For the present, every time I hear the sound of that truck my resolution becomes stronger, to make that little truck stop blaring. I haven’t quite decided upon my method, but it will most likely be illegal, so I can’t share too many details here. Just for a hint I’m strongly considering nails, a baseball bat, and ear muffs to block the banshee-like screeching’s of pain that little truck will emit once I get a hold of the speaker systems/radio that power the noise.

You may be thinking, she’s being a little excessive or wow, she really needs to get a job. Well you’d be right on both counts. The effects of my unemployment and just plain boredom have made me increasingly aware of things that would be inconsequential before, but now consumes my every scheming thought. (Dramatized a little, since I don’t spend that much time scheming. Really I don’t.) This period of my life, will hopefully soon come to an end, but untill then I will have fun plotting the demise of the uknowing doomed little ice-cream truck. (I can’t do anything to the construction site, thier sheer numbers and strength would overwhelm me, not too mention they are all big and scary.)

Oh, and just wondering, does anybody know where that quote is from?  (The title of this post)If you guess right maybe I’ll give you a dollar. Or something. Maybe.

The words “Oh what a noble mind is here o’erthrown” are uttered by Ophelia in reference to Hamlet’s ‘madness’ in… right on the money – Hamlet. I only properly know three of Shakespeare’s plays, but Hamlet is definitely my favourite. Kenneth Branagh made an utterly brilliant film production of it, which i urge you to watch if you haven’t already. And that’s free of charge, unless of course you want to send me a dollar anyway, though it’d probably cost you more to send it to me since i live in England. I’ve never been to America so it might be nice to have one, though i’m not sure why

I have seen Kenneth Branagh’s production of Hamlet, and found it quite entertaining. Thanks for the comment, if you enjoyed Hamlet then you might also find the play “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead” by Tom Stoppard interesting as well. I loved it!
