The Dark Knight July 18, 2008

Okay, as I mentioned in my first post I’m an obsessed Batman fan, so this post is going to be entirely devoted to the upcoming movie, The Dark Knight. For those of you who haven’t been scouring the internet for every little hint, true or otherwise, on what this movie is to be about, today is your lucky day. Becuase I’m about to inform you on everything, (well not quite everything) that I have found out through my extensive research. So from this point on, there is nothing but Batman stuff, so if you find this topic juvenile or stupid, well then you need not read on. :)

Okay, I’ll start with what we (fans) know for sure: The same cast/director is returning (except for Katie Holms, and frankly that’s for the best I think), new casting choices include Heath Ledger as the Joker (at first I thought this was a bad choice but after seeing a piture of him decked out in his Joker ware, well let’s just say I’ve had a change of heart), Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent ( Rumor: will most likely not have a two-face appearance, except for maybe at the very end- fans think the movie will relate to the graphic novel The Long Halloween, will cont. this later with rumor paragraph), Eric Roberts as Sal Maroni (Mafia kingpin), and Anthony Michael Hall in an unamed role (That’s pretty cool- unamed). Also there is to be a new villain named ‘Gamble’, which I must confess I don’t know who he is in the DC universe, or if he’s just a made up villain for the movie ( I feel so ashamed to admit that, but if you know anything about this character please let me know- Not ‘Gambit’ from X-men)

Well that’s the casting call, and now other interesting tid bits: The new batsuit is going to be amazing, for the first time in movies the bat-mask is actually moveable- which was apparently the hardest part of the suit, as you can see and read about here, http://www.superheroflix.com/news/28/20528.php. The joker is also going to get his very own “clown car”, for deails and a picture go and look around at the site listed above. Sticking with the transportion theme this movie is going to have the first apearance of the “bat-cycle”although it’s more of a batpod. And last but not least, at least 4 scenes of the new movie will be shot in I-MAX. (Sweet!)

Now for the rumors: I can’t remeber exactly where I read it, but there’s a possibility of a return appearance of the scarecrow (although that actor isn’t listed in role call, and I don’t think that’s very likely), the Batmobile is going to get blown up (my theory- joker does it, and this would be the reason to use the batpod), and Michael Keaton might make a cameo appearance in the new movie (he was seen hanging aroung the set in Chicago). While there are plenty of rumors out there about this fantastic new movie, these ones were either the most credibleor-I thought- the most interesting.

Okay now for the interesting parallels between the new movie and the graphic novel, The Long Halloween by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. This novel is set in Batman’s early crime fighting pre-Robin days, and Harvey Dent plays a leading part as Gotham’s newly elected DA. (Spoiler alert! (kinda)- this next part would also support some of the rumors surrounding Dent’s role in the new movie. Two-face is physically created after acid was thrown in Dent’s face while interogating the crime boss Sal Maroni (sound familiar?), and previously the Gotham DA and the Dark Knight collaborated on some crime cases, all for the bettering of Gotham City). And last but not least the Joker makes an appearance or two and has some encounters with Dent (in the comic book)). While I could probably go on with more rumors, and more parallels to other comic books I won’t because I know, while their may be fans out there reading this with as much enjoyment as I’ve had typing it, there aren’t very many. (By the way if you ever want to borrow The Long Halloween or discuss anything Batman related just let me know, since I own it and I love it.) ;)

So I don’t get sued I just wanted to mention that I retrieved all the information about the movie from either http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_Knight_(film), or www.superheroflix.com. Visit these sights for more info, and pic’s for the new movie.

Just out of curiousity, did this blog increase anyones excitement for the new movie? I know it sure did mine, I didn’t even think it was possible!

I think some one needs a job. J/K very good analysis of the new movie. I’m excited to go and see it now.

The Long Halloween was amazing. If the new movie is based loosely on it like the first one was based on Year One, we should be in for a treat.
Oh, by the way, Anthony Michael Hall is rumored to be playing Edward Nigma. Hopefully he doesn’t destroy the character for me like that fool Jim Carrey did.

I cannot wait for this movie. I am living for this movie. I’m going to go broke next summer buying tickets to see it so many times. I’m so glad to know I’m not the only one. :)

I’ve been excited for this movie since the credits started rolling on Batman Begins! It just gets worse (or better depending on how you look at it) with each passing day. I’m just glad I’ve found other enthusiasts on your blog, and in my brother. ;)
